Dr. Thomas Lee
Thomas Lee is an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology, University of Hawaii at Manoa. Thomas was born and raised in Hawaii, attending Punahou School and receiving his BA in Chinese from the University of Notre Dame in 2009. He went on to complete his MPH and PhD at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, both degrees specializing in epidemiology. Thomas has been an assistant professor since 2018, teaching courses in Global Health, Epidemiology, Public Health Biology, and biostatistics. Thomas also is an Army Reservist, serving as a medical service officer. In April of 2020, he was activated as part of a by name mission assignment (MA) request by the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (HiEMA) to serve as the State’s lead modeler and forecaster. He assisted the Governor and other lead policy makers to understand COVID-19 patterns and projections, so that policy decisions could be made at the correct time. In December of 2020, Thomas was mobilized to active duty in support of COVID-19 operations at US Army Pacific (USARPAC), where he is still serving as a medical planner. When not working, Thomas is enjoying life as a husband and new father to a baby girl.
