Jonathan Dworkin

Jonathan Dworkin is a graduate of the humanities and medicine program at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. As a medical student he travelled to the Kurdish region in Northern Iraq and worked with the Kurdish government to document the sequelae of the chemical weapons attacks on Halabja. Dr. Dworkin was the University of Hawai‘i resident Physician of the Year during his final year of training in 2009. He was the antimicrobial stewardship director as part of the infection control team for the Queen’s healthcare system 2015-2019. In 2018 he was named by Queens as the Ke Kauka Po‘okela Outstanding Physician of the Year. During the pandemic his writing was widely linked on social media, and he served as an advisor for the mayors of Honolulu and Hawai‘i Counties. He currently resides on the Big Island of Hawai‘i and practices infectious diseases at Queens North Hawai‘i, in Waimea. He is the author of The Plague Doctors: How Hawai‘i Battled the Pandemic.
