Born and raised in Honolulu, Nikos returned to Hawaii in 2017 after 25 years in California, where he completed his undergraduate and graduate studies and worked as a legislative advocate, legislative staffer, and public policy consultant, including work with Drug Policy Alliance. He is the Grants, Development & Policy Manager at Hawaii Health & Harm Reduction Center and Board President of Drug Policy Forum of Hawaii.
